Windows 2000 Setup Directions

 
  1. Double-Click the My Computer icon.

   2. Double-Click the Control Panel icon.

   3. Double-Click the Network and Dial-Up Connections icon.

      Note: If you do not see the Network and Dial-Up Connections icon, please call Technical Support at (812)337-5070, or (800)819-8143.
  
   4. Double-Click the Make A New Connection icon.


      You should now see the Network Connection Wizard.
   5. Click the Next button.

   6. Select "Dial-up to the Internet".

   7. Click the Next button.

   8. Select "I want to set up my Internet connection manually, or I want to connect through a local area network."

   9. Click the Next button.

      You will now be asked how you wish to connect to the Internet.
  10. Select "I connect through a phone line and a modem."

  11. Click the Next button.

      Note: The Internet Connection Wizard may attempt to detect your modem. If so, please follow the instructions. Once modem detection is complete, the Wizard should indicate that your modem has been set up successfully. At this point, click the Finish button.
 The Wizard will now prompt you for the dial-up telephone number for Kiva.

  12. Type the appropriate Kiva dial-up number, based on your location, from the list below.

      Bloomington     337-5002
      Bedford           277-4250
      Columbus        373-3300
      Indianapolis     713-1920
      New Castle      593-4000

      Note: The Country or Region code should be set to United States of America. Uncheck the "Use area code and dialing rules" check box.
  13. Click the Advanced button.

  14. Click the Addresses tab.

  15. In the section labeled "DNS Server Addresses", select "Always use the following:".

          * For Primary DNS, type: 216.9.137.1

          * For Alternate DNS, type: 216.9.137.100

  16. Click the OK button.

  17. Click the Next button.

  18. Type your username and password in the appropriate text fields.

  19. Click the Next button.

  20. You will now be prompted to name your connection. We suggest you name your connection Kiva.

  21. Click the Next button.

      At this point, you will be presented with the option to set up your e-mail account. Select "Yes" or "No" according to your preference, and click Next. If you decide to set up your e-mail, please refer to the e-mail setup guides.
  22. When prompted, uncheck the box that says, "To connect to the Internet immediately, select this box and then click Finish."

  23. Click the Finish button.

      Note: You should now see your new Kiva connection in the "Network and Dial-Up Connections" window.
  24. Right-Click the Kiva connection icon.

  25. Click the "Properties" menu item.

      Note: You will now see the configuration window for your Kiva connection.
  26. Click the Networking tab.

  27. Click the Settings button.

  28. Uncheck the "Enable Software Compression" check box.

  29. Click the OK button.

  30. Make sure "Internet Protocol" has a check mark and is highlighted, and click the Properties button.

  31. Click the Advanced button.

  32. Uncheck the "Use IP Header Compression" check box.

  33. Click the OK button.

  34. Click the OK button again.

  35. Click OK a third time.

      Note: Make sure not to press the X in the upper right-hand corner of the window at this point. This will close the window without saving the changes you have made.
  36. Right-Click on the Kiva icon.

  37. From the menu click on "Create Shortcut".

      Note: An error message will now appear saying, "Windows cannot create a shortcut here. Do you want the shortcut to be placed on the desktop instead?"
  38. Click the Yes button.

  39. Click the X in the upper right-hand corner of the Dial-Up networking window.


Connecting to Kiva

   1. Double-Click the Kiva icon on your desktop.

   2. Click the Connect button.

      Note: After connecting you may use your e-mail and Web browsing applications such as Outlook and Netscape.
